Q&A with Henry: Living & Exploring Kapa‘a
-
One of my favorite spots is Lei Nani Beach in Wailua, right in front of the Lei Nani condos. It’s got a protected baby pool for calm swimming, plus Lava Lava Beach Club is right next door for a killer meal with oceanfront views.
-
Hands down, Keālia Beach. It’s just north of Kapa‘a Town and has a long, open stretch of sand where you can really spread out. Whether you’re surfing, bodyboarding, or just hanging out for the day, Keālia has great energy.
-
If I’m grabbing a bite downtown, it’s Fish Bar Deli—fresh seafood, great cocktails, and a laid-back vibe. If I’m feeling like a burger, Bubba’s Burgers is a classic, but the Musubi Truck is my go-to for something quick and local.
-
That’s easy—Tamba. It’s a Kaua‘i staple, and if you’re in town, you have to stop by. Whether it’s a Tamba hat, a t-shirt, or a bumper sticker, it’s a must if you want to represent the local surf scene.
-
Lava Lava Beach Club opens at 7 AM, so if you’re trying to catch a Big Ten matchup or any early game, it’s the place to be. Johnny’s Wings & Tings next door is also a great spot with a fun, local crowd and great food.
-
Donkey Beach, which is technically part of the Keālia Kai area. You can get there by following the coastal bike path, and it’s one of the best ways to take in Kaua‘i’s coastline while getting some fresh air.
-
It’s the perfect middle ground. If you’re in Princeville, getting to Po‘ipū feels like a full-day mission. But from Kapa‘a, you can get to either side of the island quickly. It makes it easy to enjoy all of Kaua‘i without being locked into one area.
-
Kintaro is a classic spot just north of Wailua Bay. It’s got some of the best sushi and teppanyaki on the island, but get there early—there’s almost always a wait.
-
You’ll often spot Hawaiian monk seals right in front of Lei Nani Beach or on the sand near Lava Lava Beach Club. During whale season, you can catch humpback whales breaching in the distance, and if you’re out for sunrise on a surfboard, you’re in for a show.
-
Rent a bike and ride the Kaua‘i Coastal Path—it stretches from Lydgate Park past Keālia Beach and gives you some of the best coastline views on the island.
